NMRLS members who customarily request Professional Development Points (PDP's) required for
recertification by the Massachusetts Department of Education (DOE) for their program attendance
will find the rules have changed.
Under the new guidelines, NMRLS can offer PDP's, now called Certificates of Completion, only
after ten hours of content and an end of course assessment. The assessment can be delivered in
a variety of ways, such as a test, a paper, a portfolio, or a project.
Courses for which Certificates of Completion are available are noted in the CE Calendar. In some cases, because the course requires work outside the session
itself, PDP's are awarded based on estimated hours spent both in and outside of the classroom.
Hours in class can in some cases be completed by a project in the library.
Certificates of Attendance Guidelines
NMRLS will provide Certificates of Attendance for training that takes fewer than ten hours.
In that case no assessment is conducted by NMRLS. It becomes the member's responsibility to
work in his/her district to amass related certificates of attendance (equal to at least 10 hours)
consistent with his or her PDP and agree with the professional development administrator upon an
assessment. In such a case, the district provides the PDP's.
All NMRLS program participants will receive certificates of attendance for sessions that
offer content.
