If an item is too long in transit, or has not arrived at its destination within 2 weeks, notify the consortium libraries by email or phone and request that a search for the item be conducted.
NMRLS will be responsible for reimbursing libraries for lost items only in the presence of a pattern of theft. The region will be requesting weekly reports from both NOBLE and MVLC regarding items that were put in transit the previous week, but have not arrived at their destination. NMRLS staff will monitor said reports in order to identify potential patterns in a timely manner.
If a pattern is suspected, NMRLS will alert Eastern Connection and the libraries involved. All claims will be filed by NMRLS on behalf of NMRLS members, based on the network reports.
NOTE: If you notice a pattern of items missing before NMRLS does, particularly media items (DVD, MP3, CD), it is important to notify NMRLS as quickly as possible. In the past theft identification has been triggered by the arrival of multiple empty DVD/CD cases through delivery. If there is a pattern of theft established we are able to go to our delivery vendor to help identify, through review of their surveillance cameras, a potential theft.
