Digital Commonwealth Membership
Rights and Responsibilities
Adopted by the
Executive Committee 2/7/07
Membership and
First Year Fees for Digital Commonwealth
$50 Small Cultural Institutions (suggested for institutions with
two or fewer paid staff)
$100 Other Cultural Institutions (suggested for larger
institutions)
$500 Group Sponsoring Organizations (Organizations that plan to
work with their own
membership to join the Digital Commonwealth)
Membership
allows participation in Digital Commonwealth governance as
outlined in the Governance Guidelines and harvesting of member's
digital content.
This annual membership fee is for the first year only. Fees for
future years are likely to be higher when start up grant funding
is exhausted. This fee will allow the Digital Commonwealth to
operate and develop services to allow sustainable access to the
digital assets of member institutions. Grant funds are being
used to fund start up costs, ongoing funds will be required to
provide system management, maintenance, upgrades, promotion,
training, and support. Participants will also incur costs in
digitizing their materials, hosting these digital assets, and
administering their own projects or using shared repositories.
These costs are not covered by the annual membership fee. The
Digital Commonwealth encourages the formation of shared
repositories to create economies of scale in providing cost
effective ongoing maintenance of digital collections.
