  BPL Document Delivery Service

The Boston Public Library, through the MA Board of Library Commissioners' Statewide Reference and Referral Program provides document delivery services to regional member libraries.  Articles requested directly from Boston Public Library should be those that are not readily available within the member library's region.

Requests generated from Gale's Searchbank, which carry a Magazine or Business Collection control number, and verified article requests from titles owned by the BPL, should be faxed to the BPL's Telefax Office (fax: 617-267-8273).  These requests are general filled within 48 hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

All other verified journal article requests from titles not owned by the BPL should be faxed to 617-536-5119, the Journal Article Delivery Center.  Libraries wishing to e-mail requests to the Journal Article Center should contact Dorothy Keller or Helen Bender at 617-536-5400 ext. 343 or 1-800-422-4065 for information on that process.  Requests for articles in titles not owned by BPL may be filled through a variety of sources, including but not limited to, OCLC member libraries and a variety of commercial journal document delivery providers.  Requests using this service are generally filled in a seven to ten day window, although unique and/or esoteric titles may take longer.  Unverified titles may also be faxed to the Boston Public Library at 617-536-5119.  These requests will be searched by staff and, if verified, sought from the same potential providers.
