Duties/Description: Beebe Library needs a tech-savvy, energetic, friendly librarian to lead the Circulation team. The Head of Circulation is a manager of staff, materials, policies, and procedures. Cooperates with colleagues in developing and analyzing library services and collections. As a manager, the department head monitors best practices, anticipates change, assesses the need for new skills, and figures out how to bring them into the institution.
Qualifications: MLS or MLS candidate. Able to see the big picture and administer the details. Good communication skills, even disposition, ability to handle conflict. Proficient with MS Word and Excel. Supervisory experience and customer service experience are advantageous, as is experience with an integrated library system. The successful candidate will be someone whose default setting in patron interactions is YES!
Salary: $679.70-$877.76/wk

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Works under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director and cordinators. Assists Coordinators, Assistant Director and Director with planning, publicizing and promoting all library services and programs. Assists Literacy Assistant, Assistant Director, and Director in administering the Library's Adult Literacy Program. Under direction of the Coordinators, Assistant Director, and Director, directs and manages the operations of the home bound and outreach delivery services. Assists with computer tasks using Microsoft Excel and MS Word and the Internet. Assists in collection development. Supervises library personnel assigned to Community Planning Department. Staffs the Reference Desk as needed. Provides excellent customer service by assisting patrons with identifying requested library materials and using library resources. Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Assistant Director, Memorial Hall Library, Andover Posted 4-5-10)
Duties/Description:
Professional, administrative and supervisory work in managing several major functional areas of a public library, including personnel administration, collection development, and interlibrary loan. Assist the Director in the overall management of the Library.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
In the absence of the Director, act as the chief officer of operations.
Serve as the personnel coordinator for the entire staff; screen and interview applicants; oversee staff and department work load; interpret personnel policy and procedures; oversee payroll and attendance recordkeeping; hold staff meetings; prepare related reports.
Oversee and maintain library collection of approximately 250,000 items, including selection and withdrawal of library materials. Develop and administer a budget of $300,000 for materials acquisition.
Coordinate and manage Interlibrary Loan Services, including delivery of network transfers, pull-list functions, Virtual Catalog, and mediated searches.
Assist the Director in long range planning, goal setting, and policy development related to library services, personnel and building; assist with administration and special projects as requested.
Motivate library staff to automate functions where possible.
Model and encourage superior customer service.
Work with the IT staff and the Director to plan and implement new technology systems and initiatives.
Develop strategies to increase the visibility and use of the library.
Resolve patron concerns and complaints.
Perform reference duties for the public, as needed.
OTHER DUTIES
Work cooperatively with MVLC, other libraries and town officials to achieve the library’s goals and objectives.
Prepare a variety of statistical reports for the Director.
Work cooperatively with the IT and reference staff to design and update the library’s homepage.
Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Extensive knowledge of library principles and practices.
Management, planning and supervisory skills, including the ability to function well as part of a management team that supports the overall goals of the library, as formulated by the Trustees and the Director.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; to establish positive public relations for the Town, department and/or division; and to interact effectively with a wide variety of people.
Extensive knowledge of automated library systems and other library related software.
Education and Experience
Duties require a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an accredited ALA program; five years of progressively responsible experience, including minimum of two years supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Salary: Grade: IE 26 $65K - 83K annually in 8 steps.
