Congratulations to Louise, Kim, and Marjorie!
The very first-in-recent-memory annual Paraprofessional meeting will be held on Thursday, April 29th from 9 to 10 AM. Continental breakfast is included, courtesy of Tappé Associates Inc., an architectural and planning firm. A huge thank you goes to Anthony Tappé for his generosity! During the meeting officers will be voted in and bylaws amended, including doing away with the $5.00 fee to join the Paraprofessional Section. Even more exciting, members will be voting to change the name. The choices are: Paraprofessional Section (staying the same), Paralibrarian Section, and Library Associate Section. All MLA members who attend the meeting are invited to vote for their favorite choice. The vote will be binding and the new name incorporated into our bylaws.
The winners of the new recognition program for the Outstanding Paraprofessional and the Outstanding Advocate of the Year will be announced.
This annual meeting will be fun, content rich, and satisfying to paraprofessionals as they receive acknowledgement for all the good work they do. Please stop by yourself if you have the time. The Section is not limited to paraprofessionals only - anyone with an interest in paraprofessionals can join!
The second program on Thursday from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM is First Impressions. Meet a panel of experts who will share fascinating stories and offer tips on creating great first impressions.
The third program on Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 am is Don't Miss the Link! A paraprofessional panel will discuss their roles as integral links in their libraries' teams.
As you can see, the revived Paraprofessional section is new, different, and ready to roll! MLA is not just for professionals anymore.
Vote your confidence in your paraprofessional staff by allowing time off to attend the conference and/or finding supplemental funding for them to do so.
