Grants for Historical Societies:

Small historical organizations may apply for a Research Inventory Grant from the Massachusetts Foundation for the Humanities to support the costs of conducting inventory projects designed with specific research questions in mind. Grant maximums are $1,000. See www.mfh.org/grants/grantypes/rig.htm for more information.

Proposal Development Grants for All Library Types:

The Massachusetts Foundation for the Humanities offers proposal development grants of up to $500 to applicants that lack the resources needed to develop a major grant proposal. Applications may be submitted at any time. Notification is immediate. Contact the Northampton office for an application: www.mfh.org/foundation/contact.htm.

Receipt of a proposal development grant obligates the recipient to submit a proposal within one year but does not guarantee its subsequent approval. For more information see: www.mfh.org/grants/grantypes/propdev.html

Author/Illustrator Visit Grant:

The Maureen Hayes Author/Illustrator Visit Award was established in 2005 with funding from Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing to honor Maureen Hayes for her life-long efforts to bring together children and authors/illustrators. In the 1980s, Maureen Hayes was the Director of Library Services for Atheneum, an imprint of Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing.

Administered by ALSC, the Hayes Award is to be used to pay for the honorarium and travel for a visiting author/illustrator. Maximum amount of the award is $4,000. The award will be given for three years, beginning in 2006. The deadline for submissions for the second award year (2007) is December 1, 2006.
