At the April 4th Delivery Committee meeting we discussed a number of steps members can take to facilitate timely delivery and help NMRLS keep in touch with your workload. We ask that you follow these instructions when they apply to your library. And we appreciate your efforts to help make this service timely and valuable to your patrons. Please call NMRLS if you have any questions.
Manifests and Bins Left Behind
Instruct staff who work on delivery to verify that the following information is correct. If the manifest is not accurate, please correct it in ink. Accurate manifests help us to monitor the volume of delivery.
- # of Bins Delivered
- # of Bins Picked Up
- # of Bins Left (bins that are ready to be picked up)
- Time (of delivery)
- Your signature
If a driver is unable to pick up all bins at your library, please arrange and mark them so that the oldest ones are removed first on the following day, in addition to noting the number left behind on the manifest.
Labels
Always use a new label with only one destination circled. We have seen examples of labels folded to hide an "old" destination that cause misrouting.
If you are presorting, please attach labels securely to the top and short side of the bin. When presorting, the items inside the bin do not need to be labeled.
When shipping items outside NMRLS, please use the correct routing slip. The large letters which designate the regions at the top of the slips must be accurate to avoid misdirection of items which can lead to delays. There is an on-line directory of all libraries in Massachusetts on regional delivery service: www.bpl.org/brls/delivery.htm.
We have designed a new label for MVLC Libraries (Manchester-North Reading) to designate Merrimac Public Library items that are part of the Supplementary Deposit Collection. Please use the new master next time you copy this label. Download a copy at: www.nmrls.org/delivery/label.shtml
Bins
Remove all "old" labels from the outside of all bins upon receipt. Old external labels from presorted bins can cause misdirection.
