 | | Northeast Library Legislative Breakfast in Burlington – Together We Can! |
A total of 78 library supporters, friends, trustees, and legislators gathered early in the morning on March 9th at the Burlington Public Library. Our theme was Together We Can! Build Minds, Build Collections, Build Libraries, Build Connections.
Many thanks are owed to those who made this event possible. Lori Hodgson, Library Director, and the Friends, Trustees, and Staff in Burlington were fine hosts and delivered a smooth event from start to finish. As promised, the breakfast was over by 9 am to allow attendees to go on with their day.
Ellen Rainville, (J.V. Fletcher Library, Westford) was our Master of Ceremonies. She began by introducing Bob Mercier, Burlington Town Administrator, who welcomed attendees to Burlington. Vickie L. Kaufman and Irving Zangwill, MBLC Commissioners, thanked the group for support and expressed their willingness to work with us to support libraries. Rob Maier, MBLC Director, described the legislative agenda and how it will move libraries forward as they face the challenges of strong demand for delivery of both physical and online library materials. Representative Charles Murphy (Twenty First Middlesex, including Burlington) showed great support for libraries and urged us to be persistent in asking for help from the legislature. Barbara Flaherty, (Billerica Public Library) closed the meeting as a Past President of the Massachusetts Library Association by urging attendees to join MLA on April 5th at the State House for Library Legislative Day.
