NMRLS Executive Board Meeting Summary
Thursday, March 20, 2008

School Recertification and Removal of School Libraries from Membership

Susan Grabski informed the Board that, despite having been sent three letters from NMRLS requesting certification information, the 22 schools had not responded with information documenting that their school meets NMRLS membership eligibility requirements. In addition 11 schools applied for waivers but were not eligible under NMRLS standards for waiver acceptance.

The Board discussed previous recertification rounds, the number of libraries who lost NMRLS membership in the past, and how NMRLS reaches out to both current members non-members to market the benefits of NMRLS membership. Marlene Heroux explained that the eligibility standards come from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.

The Executive Board voted to remove 33 libraries for not meeting NMRLS membership eligibility requirements.

Delivery Services Discussion

NMRLS delivery vendor continues to make significant improvements since our last meeting. Their efficiency expert has made many changes to the way EC conducts sorting including moving sorting to the afternoon and has begun to provide next day delivery of all items. Once they finish looking at sortation they will move on to address the delivery side of their operation. They are looking at vehicle capacity and possible changes to larger vehicles to accommodate the volume. The changes are encouraging and members seem pleased.
