Archives Alive! Workshop: Organizing and Promoting Your Archival Collections

Historical records and archival collections offer our clearest insight into the past. If carefully managed and thoughtfully promoted, these collections also offer an opportunity for repositories of these records to develop new audiences.

In this two-part morning program, Laura Scott Lowell will help participants to prepare a checklist of steps necessary for "Getting Your House in Order." Bonnie Hurd Smith, Public Relations Consultant, will discuss "How to Promote Your Collections."

AUDIENCE:

  • Volunteers, staff, and board members of local history repositories (public libraries, town halls, historical museums, historical commissions and societies, and heritage sites) who are, or wish to, work on archives management or the promotion of archives
  • Members of the general public who might be inspired by this workshop to volunteer at their local historical society, library, etc. to assist with this work if they know more about what needs to be done and how.

Basic Library Techniques: Administration

This two-day workshop is one of the four Basic Library Techniques courses required for state certification of non-MLS directors of public libraries serving communities under 10,000. You must attend both full days to be awarded credit toward BLT certification.

-Developing Policies
-Long Range Planning
-Youth Services Issues
-Regional Trends & New Technologies
-Marketing Your Library
-Personnel, Budgeting, and Staying Organized

Lunch: Participants may want to bring a lunch. A refrigerator will be available. We will break for a half-hour lunch during each session.

PDP's: This Basic Library Techniques: Administration Series will be awarded 10 PDP's upon completion. All sessions must be attended to be awarded certificates.
