Delivery Volume Report
By Gregory Pronevitz

Thanks to delivery participants who provided bin and item counts in October and to Lucie Gallagher for compiling the results. The chart below shows the recent decrease of 4.8 percent in the number of bins shipped per week by member libraries. This survey also showed a decrease of 6.2 percent in the number of items shipped by members.

The number of items shipped by MVLC members decreased at a higher rate than that of NOBLE members. We attribute this to a recently implemented system feature that sends the pull-list request directly to the requester's pick up location. MVLC has approved a policy that is likely to result in a decrease in volume. Libraries will be given the option to limit the transit of new feature films and TV series for six months, beginning January 22, 2007. Patrons will be able to request them for pick up at the owning library, however.

The 35 libraries of MVLC comprise two-thirds of the shipping volume; the 28 libraries of NOBLE make up another third. Volume in non-network libraries is much lower.
