      Delivery Services Update

Thanks to all delivery participants for providing delivery statistical information during our October survey. Lucie Gallagher has tabulated the data and it is available for review at: <http://www.nmrls.org/delivery/2008-Oct-Survey.pdf>.

The charts below show the typical trend of October being lower than the preceding March. Over one year, the October sample has gone up by about 15 percent in terms of items shipped by libraries while the number of bins shipped increased by 12 percent. The total of bins shipped by libraries was 1,495 and the total of items shipped was 45,472 in October 2008.

Members also counted mis-sorted items and bins delivered to the wrong library. The total of mis-sorted items was .77 percent. The number of mis-delivered bins was .80 percent. This showed an improvement of more than .33 percent since the March 2008 survey, which found that 1.27 percent of items mis-sorted and 1.19 percent of bins mis-delivered.

Members reported on how many presorted bins were shipped. The total was 188 or 12.57 percent of items shipped. This is equivalent to about 5,700 items that did not need to be labeled individually by the library or sorted at the sort site.
