NMRLS hosted a discussion with 15 attendees at the Samuel S. Pollard Memorial Library on November 1st. After an interesting round-robin discussion on issues facing each library, members made suggestions to NMRLS to assist with this issue. As a result of this important discussion, a new diversity services area has been added to our Web site: http://www.nmrls.org/diversity.
It was noted that the Spanish-language databases, Gale Informe and Grolier Online's Nueva enciclopedia Cumbre en línea, are not heavily used. NMRLS staff have created new links to these and other Spanish-language resources from a Test Version of a Spanish-language section of the "ReferenceOnCall" Web site: http://www.referenceoncall.org/espanol. Please contact me by January 10th, if you have any suggestions to improve this site, if your library should be added to the list of local libraries with Spanish-language Web sites, Spanish-language collections, or Spanish-speaking staff members. We will then post it as part of the end-user Web site.
Members also stated a need for continuing education to assist library staff in working successfully with multicultural patrons. NMRLS staff is looking into this issue. We welcome additional suggestions from members on these topics.
