New Online Massachusetts Directory of Programs and Performers:
The Southeastern Massachusetts Library System is pleased to announce the release of the new online Massachusetts Directory of Programs and Performers. You can search the directory at http://www.semls.org/performer/.
If you do not see your favorite performers in the directory, please be sure to add them or to forward login information to the performers so that they can add their own programs. To submit contact and program information, go to http://www.semls.org/performer/login.asp and register for a new account. To register for an account, users will need to enter the directory authorization code: mrlsperform. Please share this code with performers so that they can create accounts as well.
Librarians who enter performance information should be sure to enter the performer's correct e-mail address. This information will ensure that the performer will be able to go into the directory at a later date to update his/her own information.
Performers who enter contact information will need to include the name and phone number of at least one library or school where they have recently performed.
An advanced search feature will soon be added to the directory to allow library staff to search the directory by target age group, maximum fee and more.
Please send any comments or questions about the directory to performer@semls.org.

Intern Update!
Kelli Garvey, who interned at the Beverly Public Library during the Spring of 2003, was offered a job at a small private elementary school in Maryland. The principal had wanted to start a library for quite some time, but had not found anyone to do it, and the school has not had the funds to hire anyone. They just accepted a grant for the school and have offered a thrilled Kelli the job. Kelli feels confident that many of the skills she learned at Beverly will help her in this position.
She will basically be looking at the current collection of books in each classroom, assessing the situation, and coming up with a way to catalog their books in a computer system of some kind. Also, she will be helping the students become oriented to having a library system. Right now there is no room designated for a "library", so she will be working primarily within each classroom.
She is also organizing an adolescent book club for five young girls from her church. They are starting next month, reading Running Out of Time by Margaret Peterson Haddix.
