WiFi is now available at the Burlington Public Library thanks to a donation of a wireless router and hub by MassCue (Massachusetts Computer Using Educators). Patrons with wireless-enabled laptops now have free access to the Internet in study rooms, meeting rooms, and most areas of the library.
The web page of the Burlington Public Library has recently been redesigned. The new page has an enhanced directory with more choices, larger and brighter buttons, and a different layout making it much easier to navigate the site. The staff also renamed some of the links using less "library lingo" making it more user friendly for the public.

"Booked on Crime" - Mystery Book Group @ Pollard Memorial Library, Lowell
The Pollard Memorial Library is thrilled to unveil our newest adult program: the "celebrity picks" book discussion group. Throughout 2005, we plan to offer a series of book discussion groups lead by local artists and illustrators. The "celebrity" will also choose the books that the group will read. Daniel is the Jack Kerouac writer-in-residence at UMass Lowell and the author of a mystery series set here in Lowell. Here are the dates and times of our "Booked on Crime" meetings and their corresponding book titles:
Wednesday, February 16, 2005 - 7:30 PM
Double Indemnity by James M. Cain
Wednesday, March 2, 2005 - 7:30 PM
The Killer Inside Me by Jim Thompson

Space is limited, and registration is required. For more information or to register for a spot in "Booked on Crime," contact Julie Iatron at 978-970-4118 or email her at jiatron@mvlc.org. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Lowell Cultural Council, a local agency, which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
Mr. Daniel's next Alex Rasmussen book, which is the mystery series set primarily in Lowell, is due to be published sometime in late March or early April. Once the Marble Kite has been released, Daniel has agreed to talk about his latest book at the Pollard. Stay tuned for more information about that program later on in the winter. Until then, register for "Booked on Crime" and start enjoying the exciting titles that Mr. Daniel has chosen!

Donna Beales, librarian at the Lowell General Hospital, wrote a section of the "How Do You Manage?" column in Library Journal. The subject covers the viability of the MLS program when hiring top-level library management. She is also publishing an article on "health literacy" in the Journal of Hospital Librarianship. Both publications are forthcoming.
