NMRLS has analyzed the value of services provided to NMRLS member libraries in our last fiscal year (July 1, 2003 - June 30, 2004). The value of service is calculated each year for the membership to determine what the retail price would be for all of the services provided by NMRLS to establish a tangible value of regionalization.
In FY2004 the total value of service was nearly $11.5 million. This is approximately $7.60 per dollar invested in NMRLS. Our analysis provides an average value for each type of library, as illustrated in the table below:
| Library Type | Total Value of Service, by type | AVERAGE Value of Service, by type |
| Academic | $924,713.05 | $66,050.93 |
| Public | $7,901,600.91 | $149,086.81 |
| Elementary School | $488,171.19 | $8,416.74 |
| Middle School | $301,732.14 | $6,705.16 |
| High School | $1,012,909.70 | $10,129.10 |
| Special | $690,588.59 | $16,843.62 |
| Total: | $11,319,715.59 | $36,397.80 |
We hope you agree that this clearly demonstrates the strong value of the regional library system program. We will be mailing individual value of service reports to members in February.
Regionalization provides NMRLS members with strength in numbers that benefits member libraries and their communities. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
