Basic Library Techniques (BLT) - Cataloging -- Two-Day Workshop

This two-session workshop is one of the Basic Library Techniques courses required for state certification of non-MLS directors of Public Libraries serving communities under 10,000.

The workshop will cover all aspects of cataloging: theory and philosophy; standard practices; description; access points; name authorities; subject headings; classification schemes; basic MARC format; and filing rules. By the end of the workshop, all participants will be able to complete a cataloging record for a book, video/DVD, or CD according to AACR2 rules and in MARC format.

This two-day workshop will be taught by Dodie Gaudet, Consultant, Central Mass. Regional Library System.

Hold the date for Ethics in Libraries, a workshop to be held on May 22, 2006, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, at Nevins Memorial Library, Methuen. Topics and case studies will be presented for conversation on the ALA Code of Ethics, ethics in an electronic age, patron privacy, staff behavior on the front lines and behind the scenes, handling materials challenges.

Distance Education via WebJunction! No Fee for NMRLS members!

NMRLS is funding participation in fee-based WebJunction workshops through a Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation grant. The workshops are currently FREE for staff at NMRLS member libraries.
