High school teachers at St. Mary's High School in Lynn literally took a walk across the street to their public library. They were so happy they did! They got a lovely tour, registered for NOBLE library cards and PIN numbers so they could use the online databases from home, and picked up Summer Reading lists from other schools to get fresh ideas!

In early November, Barbara Lichtman, Librarian at St. Mary's Junior/Senior High School in Lynn, wanted to know how many of the staff had ever been to Lynn Public Library across the street. Not many had! So, she asked the Principal Carl Dimaiti if we could use part of a Professional Development day to tour our community library, an underutilized resource by our students. He thought it was a great idea! If the teachers knew of the wonderful resources across the street maybe they would send the students over for research.

Lisa Bourque, Reference Librarian at Lynn Public Library, gave us a tour and handouts on using the NOBLE databases. Now a few months later, we are online with NMRLS...and the students and teachers know that they can get this information from home or school with the magic of NMRLS and their local library card.

It was a wonderful event. We had 15 teachers take the tour. It was a simple collaboration between St. Mary's and Lynn Public...but it had never been done before! We enjoyed the beautiful architecture and learned about the library holdings. So the moral of this story is there is a first time for everything, and you never know what delight you may find if you walk across the street!
