Jeannine Lynch is a Gloucester native who has used the library her whole life and holds it very dear. She is a member of the library's Adult Book Discussion Group which I lead and for the past several years she has volunteered to play at library functions, including the Annual Art Auction. An accomplished musician, she plays the flute and piano.

Several months ago, Jeannine decided that she wanted to find a creative way to give back to the institution that provided her with so much throughout her childhood and adulthood. She gave me a demo CD of classical pieces that she wanted to record and sell on behalf of the library. Together with Barbara Ninnes, a classical pianist who studied at Kings College in London and lived there during the WW II bombings, she produced "Lark in the Library," a classical CD and a tribute to the Gloucester Lyceum & Sawyer Free Library. She is donating the entire sale price of $10 to the library. The beautiful watercolor cover on the CD is done by her mother, accomplished local watercolorist Margaret Laurie.

Jeannine wanted to find a creative way to make more of a financial donation than she could individually afford so; hence the CD. Creating it and donating the proceeds allowed her to:

  1. Maximize her gift to the library
  2. Expose more people to classical music
  3. Bring attention to the library and its upcoming building project.

We're very grateful to all she has done. The CDs are for sale at the library and at some local businesses. One of our patrons and supporters owns a local bakery (Alexander's) and asked to have some to sell. He's now on his second dozen. To date over 200 have been sold. A great purchase for $10 that will go to a good cause!
