During 2006, the Hamilton-Wenham Public Library hoped that our rising circulation numbers would culminate in at least 200,000 checkouts by the end of the year. However, we reached our goal by mid November, more than six weeks ahead of our deadline. This is a record year for the Hamilton-Wenham Public Library!
Tracy Kidder, Pulitzer-Prize winning author, will speak about his book Mountains Beyond Mountains on March 21, 2007 at Gordon College in Wenham. Hamilton-Wenham Public Library patron and trustee, Betty Stanton describes her relationship with the book by saying, "It is a book I have read twice, and one that everyone should read at least once. It's an inspiring account about how one person (Dr. Paul Farmer), dedicated beyond belief, can make a difference."
This is our first "On the Same Page" community-wide read and we are very pleased to have partnered with Gordon College to make this happen. The entire freshman class at Gordon is reading the book during the spring semester.
So join us for a special librarian's night out! Invite your friends to come as well. You can talk with Kidder personally at a reception at 6:00 p.m. in the Presidents Dining Room and then hear him speak about Mountains Beyond Mountains at 7:30 p.m. in the A.J. Gordon Memorial Chapel. Tickets for the evening are $15.00 and are available at the Hamilton-Wenham Public Library, online at http://www.hwlibrary.org and at the Gordon College Bookstore.
We invite you also to come and learn about how Dr. Farmer is expanding his work into Africa when Ed Cardoza of Partners in Health joins us at the library on March 14 at 7:30 p.m. And all during March and April you can visit the library and view the unique artwork of Haitian artist Carey Dardompre. For more information and other related events, please go to our website at http://www.hwlibrary.org or call the library at 978-468-5577.
