"ROOM TO GROW": A NMRLS LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT DAY

On June 4, NMRLS Executive Board and committee members met at Merrimack College to participate in a leadership development day. The NMRLS Board Development Committee (formerly the Nominating Committee) sponsored the event. Among its responsibilities, this group is charged with ongoing board and committee development, and the identification and recruitment of new board and committee members.

The keynote speaker was Marshall Keys of MDA Consulting. You may remember Marshall from his days as the Executive Director of NELINET. He discussed the critical need for leadership in today's libraries. After group sessions in which members gathered by library type to consider current issues, the participants reconvened to share their findings. Marshall assembled "A Practical Guide for Library Leaders," based on questions submitted by participants prior to the development day. Here he covered leadership skills needed to survive and manage in lean times.
