On June 14th, NELINET held its Annual Spring Resource Sharing meeting at Assumption College in Worcester. ILL Librarians, Anna Kjoss and Marilyn Graves both attended.

Morning topics covered:

  • "Buy-on-Demand: Interlibrary Loan Meets Collection Development", presented by Megan Allen, Assistant Director, Thomas Crane Public Library and Suzanne Ward, Head of Access Services, Purdue University. Megan outlined how the Thomas Crane Library established guidelines for purchasing books rather than borrowing them and found they could fill requests that might go unfilled and enhance the collection and well as service.
  • "Ready, set, GO! OCLC Resource Sharing Today and Tomorrow" was presented by Collette Mak, Manager, OCLC Resource Sharing Product Management. Collette outlined trends in OCLC resource sharing. Especially timely was an update on the change of platforms OCLC will be initiating in 2005.

The afternoon offered breakout sessions on CLIO, ILLIAD and OCLC.

The afternoon wrapped up with the presentation, "A Vision for the Resource Sharing Future: Look how far we've come", presented by Mickey Zemon, Executive Director, Emerson College Library and Sheldon Kaye, Library Director, Portland (ME) Public Library. Conference presentations and the Top Twenty OCLC Lenders 2003 list are available at: www.nelinet.net/edserv/conf/ill/2004/agenda.htm Links to materials and presentations are in bold text on that Web page.
