Profiles in Collaboration:
Four Communities and the MBLC
Join in a Summer Reading Program Kick Off

The 9th annual Library Day at Maudslay State Park in Newburyport, sponsored by the Newburyport, Newbury, West Newbury and Amesbury Public Libraries, took place on Wednesday, June 23.
Families brought picnic lunches and enjoyed a day in the park. Lori Spector, Children's Librarian at Amesbury Public Library, welcomed participants to the day's events, and acknowledged the sponsorship by the 4 different libraries.

She introduced David Gray of the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners who read aloud the Governor's Proclamation that the week of June 16th through June 23rd, 2004, was "Summer Library Adventure Kickoff Week in Massachusetts." A copy of this Proclamation can be found by clicking here.

David engaged the audience in the Proclamation reading and actually made it an interactive experience for the children! It was a unique and fun experience to hear some 100 voices shout out "Whereas"!

Following David was Fran Friedman, an award-winning singer, recording artist, and educator, who led her young listeners in delightful songs and movement.
