NMRLS has analyzed the value of services provided to member libraries during FY2003. Despite a 24% reduction in our FY2003 budget, we are pleased to report the total value of service exceeded $11.2 million or over $7.50 for each dollar spent. Regionalization provides NMRLS members with strength in numbers to allow the delivery of important service programs. Over the summer, we will mail individual reports to all members. For many libraries the highest values are in electronic databases, delivery, and purchasing cooperatives.
Here is a summary of values by library type:
| Library Type | Total Value of Service,
by type | AVERAGE Value of Service,
by type |
| Academic | $913,184.84 | $70,244.99 |
| Network | $89,534.00 | $44,767.00 |
| Public | $7,139,695.34 | $134,711.23 |
| Region (NMRLS) | $30,889.14 | $30,889.14 |

| Middle School | $384,981.89 | $8,191.10 |
| Elementary School | $721,760.89 | $6,116.62 |
| Special | $794,862.92 | $19,871.57 |
| Total: | $11,245,489.75 | $33,172.54 |
The values per service used in this report have not changed since last year. A number of items have not been included in the reports that have been aggregated in the total regional value of services such as: advisory services provided to NMRLS members by technology staff at Memorial Hall Library; training sessions and 24/7 reference services provided by staff at regional reference centers at Memorial Hall Library, Reading Public Library, and Lawrence Law Library; access to computers and collections at Memorial Hall Library and Lawrence Law Library; and a number of statewide online services that were difficult to quantify, e.g., netLibrary.
