BIBLIOTEMPS to Serve NMRLS Libraries
By Carolyn Noah, CMRLS Regional Administrator
BiblioTemps provides staffing solutions for libraries and this fall will expand to offer services to Northeast MA Regional Library System (NMRLS) members. A program of the Central MA Regional Library System (CMRLS), BiblioTemps recruits able, professional and experienced staff to fill libraries' staffing gaps and short-term needs for specific expertise.
In its eighteen months, BiblioTemps filled positions ranging from library collection movers to interim directors and specialized searchers to young adult librarians. Its clients included academic, public, school and special libraries.
CMRLS will recruit northeast MA staff to provide all levels of library service beginning in summer 2006. BiblioTemps will seek people with library experience including cataloging, circulation, searching, grant writing, management and youth services. BiblioTemps recruits people at all stages of library life, including recently retired, unemployed, part time workers needing more hours, and library school students with some library work experience. There are openings for people with Master's degrees and those without.
BiblioTemps expects to formally announce the availability of service to NMRLS library directors and trustees in September.

CMRLS has served the needs of public libraries for 42 years. In 1998 membership expanded to include academic, special, and school libraries and members now number over 250. CMRLS is a 501 c(3) corporation that provides services to member libraries so that they can better serve their users. The organization is funded by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. However, BiblioTemps was launched without state dollars, using only earned income. CMRLS established BiblioTemps to provide an essential service to Regional members and strengthen the profession while developing an alternative source of funds to support ongoing services.
