A $5,000 Scholastic Library Publishing National Library Week Grant will be awarded for the best public awareness campaign incorporating the 2008 National Library Week (April 13-19, 2008) theme, "Join the Circle of Knowledge @ Your Library."

Funds can be used to pay for promotional aspects of the program, i.e., printing/design of flyers, advertising, honoraria, and other campaign expenses related only to promotion. For All Libraries, Youth Services

The Walt Disney Company and Youth Service America (YSA) are providing Disney Minnie grants of up to $500 to support youth-led service projects. These grants support youth (ages 5-14) in planning and implementing service projects in their community. Teachers, older youth (15-25), youth-leaders, and youth-serving organizations are also eligible to apply, provided that they that engage younger youth (5-14) in planning and implementing the service. Service can take place between October 1 and November 26, 2007. Projects can address themes such as the environment, disaster relief, public health and awareness, community education, hunger, literacy, or any issue that youth identify as a community need. Applications are welcome from all countries, though applications will only be accepted in English. Northeast Rocks with Grant Awards!

Wilmington Memorial - One of Three in the Nation!

The Wilmington Memorial Library was selected to be one of three libraries in the nation for the "Idearc Media-American Library Association Reading Renovation Volunteer Project". The project supports the library with approximately $20,000, and volunteer help from Idearc Media employees (whose offices are located in Middletown), to renovate an area of the library to make it a more attractive space for the community to enjoy.

The focus of the project will be on revitalizing the Children's area of the Wilmington Memorial Library. The anticipated date for the makeover will be sometime at the end of October. Idearc Media is the publisher of the Verizon Yellow Pages and home to Superpages.com.
