Massachusetts Trial Court Law Libraries Continue Participating in "24/7" Virtual Reference Project

On September 1, 2002, the Massachusetts Trial Court Law Libraries began to take part in a pilot project of the New England Law Library Consortium (NELLCO), which offers patrons of NELLCO libraries access to virtual "chat" reference using the "24/7" software.

Through this service, patrons can chat with a legal reference librarian, in real time, over the Internet. No special software is required on the patron's computer. We are pleased to announce that the pilot was quite successful, and the project will continue for the upcoming fiscal year.

Summer hours of service are:

Monday through Thursday: 11:00AM to 7:00PM

Friday: 11:00AM to 3:00PM

No Service on Legal Holidays

Patrons can link to the service by visiting the Massachusetts Trial Court Law Libraries at http://www.lawlib.state.ma.us/askus.htm, and clicking on the "Library Lawline" icon. Patrons are invited to complete the short survey which will "pop up" at the end of the chat session, and/or to forward comments to Brian Archambault.

Give it a try, and let us know what you think!

Massachusetts Judiciary On-Line "Self Help Center" Expands
As reported in the February, 2003 NMRLS Newsletter, the Massachusetts Court System has added a "Self Help Center" to its website http://www.state.ma.us/courts/selfhelp for the convenience of litigants who are representing themselves in Court action. The Center began with Probate and Family Court Materials, and not only has this section been expanded, but resources pertaining to Housing, District, and Boston Municipal Courts have been added. Check this site frequently for further updates.

Most Trial Court Law Library Materials are Available Through Inter-Library Loan
Although we welcome patrons to visit us in person in order to review our materials, sign up for a law library card and borrow our circulating items, we realize that some patrons may wish to stay closer to their home library. Don't forget that Massachusetts Trial Court Law Library holdings can be found on MassCat as well as our website http://www.lawlib.state.ma.us. We accept ILL requests via OCLC, telephone, fax and email.
