The Special Libraries met on May 11 at the Salem Athenaeum, 337 Essex Street. Members enjoyed meeting new colleagues and sharing updates from their libraries. Many thanks to John Adams for hosting the morning's gathering and for the tour and history of the Athenaeum.
We couldn't waste a beautiful spring day, so it was a short walk to the Stephen Phillips Trust House, 34 Chestnut Street. The House was not yet open for the season, but Site Manager Laurie Austin gave the group a tour of the carriage house and the first floor. Thank you, Laurie!
We are hoping to hold an August Special Libraries meeting at the Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities, 141 Cambridge Street, Boston. Watch for more information from NMRLS as the time gets closer.
The Interlibrary Loan Committee met on May 19, at Peabody Institute Library, Danvers. Marilyn Graves (NOBLE, Danvers) and Anna Kjoss (Memorial Hall, Andover) reported on the ILL open houses held earlier in May at each of the ILL Centers. The group presented pros and cons on the use of pre-printed delivery slips. Chair Marnie Oakes reported on the results of an informal email brainstorming of ILL and delivery issues. Scott Kehoe reviewed the NMRLS FY05 Plan of Service and the Best Practices document. Suggestions were made for updates and revision.
The Continuing Education Committee met on May 27, at Lynn Public Library. The Committee members considered the results of a recent annual CE survey. They also looked at upcoming CE schedules and the FY05 CE budget.
The Supplemental Deposit Collection Committee met on June 8 at Memorial Hall Library in Andover. Contract transition details were reviewed. Memorial Hall Library in Andover has agreed to host and prepare the collection for moving during a transitional period from July 1 – October 31, 2004. There is an intentional overlap in contracts during the month of October in order to move the collection from Andover and integrate the collection at Merrimac Public Library. For transition details please visit www.nmrls.org/suppserv/update.shtml. The Plan of Service for FY05 and the Annual Report for FY04 were reviewed. Carol Bacon officially passed the position of Chair to Suzanne Monier. The Committee thanked Carol for her work with flowers, a cake, and a card.
