We have been publishing a monthly newsletter since March of 1998. The feature story in that Newsletter of 4 pages was the selection of the Regional Administrator Greg Pronevitz!
Our first online Newsletter was in May of 1998: Deb Covell joined the staff, a Delivery survey was announced, and planning was beginning as to what databases would be purchased for the region.
The Newsletters were published in PDF format for a very brief time: August - January 2003. It was with the December 2002/January 2003 issue that we began double issues. We publish another double issue in July / August.
Currently, we are publishing Volume 7 of our Newsletter and an issue is easily 20 pages plus in length! The print newsletter, which is sent out to members, is an abridged version of the online Newsletter. Articles, which include a lot of photographs or hyperlinks, are not included in the print. We get a lot of nice feedback from our readers so we know our Newsletter is read! We would like it to be a useful resource tool as well. We are investigating ways of indexing or enabling searches of the archives.
As a temporary step in that direction, we announce a Subject Index of the Newsletter. Indexing begins with the May 2004 issue. Please take a look at www.nmrls.org/news/newsletter_index.shtml.
Additionally, if you wish to search the archives at this time, you can Google your topic! It's best to use the advanced search. Several options are given in the "Find Results" box. Keep the default of showing 10 results. By entering "NMRLS Newsletter" in the "with all of the words" and your "exact phrase" in the second box, search results can be pretty accurate. For example, I searched for the MODEL conference. Of the 4 results, 2 pointed to the specific article in the March 2004 Newsletter.
We are investigating more permanent solutions for searching the Newsletter, from a database index to some sort of searching software. In the meantime, we hope the Subject Index proves helpful as well using Google's Advanced Search!
