Beverly Public Library recently lost circulation staff member Lorrie Manning who died suddenly on May 15. With more than 20 years at the Library, she will be sorely missed.
Three of Landmark's high school students were selected as finalists and then won Honorable Mention in the recent Beverly Public Library Poetry Contest. Throughout the community of Beverly, over 500 poems were submitted to the Contest, celebrating National Poetry Month.
A wonderful workshop for librarians was held in early May, conducted and hosted by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. It was a huge success, with about 100 librarians in attendance. The day was well planned and offered an assortment of activities and insight into the workings behind-the-scenes of the MFA. I wholeheartedly encourage everyone to plan to go to this annual event.

On Friday night May 7, 2004, the Trustees and Staff of the Peabody Institute Library, Danvers, gathered at the Salem Athenaeum for dinner and a program. The weather was beautiful and we got to enjoy the porch and the garden before dinner. Lantern Hill Catering prepared dinner. After dinner, John Adams, Director of the Library, spoke about the history of the Salem Athenaeum. Following John, Rob Maier talked about the history of the neighborhood, Salem, and the early years of the Peabody Institute Library in Danvers.
Last year the Trustees and Staff met at the George Peabody House in Peabody. This annual get-together provides the Trustees and Staff an opportunity to talk and socialize which is not available during working hours.

The Dunstable Public Library's very own Susan Tully, Children's Librarian/Program Coordinator was nominated for the MLA's Paraprofessional of the Year Award. She has worked with the Dunstable Library for the last 15 years and has collaborated for events with every organization in town. There is no limit to what she will not do for the library and its patrons, from delivering to the homebound meals and books to coordinating a program called "Vehicle Night" with the Highway Department which takes place in the center of town. We have started a very active Senior Drop-in center and Susan is the leading force. She facilitates a weekly lunch and programs by utilizing members of the community. We are fortunate to have Susan on staff.
