A Task Force has met over the past few months to redesign the NMRLS end-user Web site, http://www.referenceoncall.org. As per Task Force recommendations, the site will be renamed Answers To Go. The group recommended this change in direction due to budget cuts, which have compelled NMRLS to eliminate the after hours toll free telephone reference services provided by Reading Public Library after June 30, 2003. Patrons will no longer be able to "call." However, remote database use and links to 24/7 reference librarians will remain in addition to many other helpful features.
The new site will be launched in April and will be available in parallel with the original site. Watch for an announcement on our electronic discussion list. Users will be able to preview the new site and will be invited to provide feedback. We plan to make this a very user-friendly site. In June we will finalize the site and it will replace the Reference On Call site in July. In August we will distribute new printed promotional materials to members to publicize this site designed for library patrons to use from home.
Many thanks to this group for their hard work: Susan Babb, Task Force Chair, Susan Grabski, Web Designer, and Task Force Members: Eleanor Sathan (Memorial Hall Library, Andover), Susan Chase (Governor Dummer Academy), Jeffrey Klapes (Lucius Beebe Library, Wakefield), Susan Connor (Swampscott Public Library), Esme Green (Reading Public Library), Lori Stalteri (McQuade Library, Merrimack College), and Mary Behrle (NMRLS).
