School Library Media Center Recertification Updates
The Executive Board voted unanimously to remove 27 school libraries from the membership list. The libraries do not have on staff a Massachusetts state certified library media specialist (librarian), so do not meet requirements for certification. After the motion passed, Stephen Jankauskas, Principal of the Sanborn School in Andover, addressed the group. He discussed his school library's program and asked that the Board reconsider its rejection of his waiver request. The Board decided to table decertification of the Sanborn School, until it could consider Mr. Jankauskas' case. The Executive Board decided to remove 26 school members and vote on the Sanborn School waiver request at its March meeting. This passed without opposition.

The Executive Board tabled action on five additional school libraries, pending receipt of additional information from these members.

The Executive Board voted to accept without opposition, the one-time waiver requests from five school libraries, with the requirement that these fully meet certification requirements within the time frame described in their waiver applications.

The Executive Board voted unanimously to not accept one-time waiver requests from seven school libraries that do not meet requirements for certification because they do not have on staff a Massachusetts state certified library media specialist (librarian). Vote to remove these libraries from membership will be taken at the March meeting.

The Executive Board voted to accept a one-time waiver request from one new school member, with the requirement that this library fully meet certification requirements within the time frame described in its waiver application.
