The long awaited NMRLS ILL Manual is available online! The NMRLS ILL Manual is divided into two major components: a Best Practices statement; and an ILL Code with appendixes. The Best Practices states NMRLS support for multi-type resource sharing and promoting ILL to member libraries as well as their patrons. The NMRLS Executive Board unanimously approved the ILL Best Practices statement at their February 19th meeting; an excerpt from the ILL Best Practices follows:
NMRLS recognizes that no individual library has the resources available to meet all user needs. Thus interlibrary loan is an essential service. ILL supplements and expands local collections and removes many geographic and economic barriers for patrons. NMRLS encourages borrowing and lending between libraries of all types in the Region.
The ILL Code is both a "how-to" and "code of conduct" for libraries utilizing interlibrary loan. It also includes appendixes with a myriad of helpful web sites on everything from, a Regional delivery directory, to material packing and copyright guidelines.
Thanks go to the NMRLS ILL Committee for their support and approval as well as Anna Kjoss, Andover ILL Center, and Marilyn Graves, NOBLE ILL Center, for their hard work creating these documents and for their persistence in getting this all done!
