Verizon and The Boston Herald sponsor the Massachusetts Literacy Champions Awards for practitioners of literacy (in schools, adult learning centers, and libraries). Award winners receive $2,500 for their program and a personal grant of $1,000 for their own professional development. The American Library Association Office for Diversity announces its 2005 Diversity Research Grant. This grant consists of a $2,000 award for original research and a $500 travel grant to attend and present at ALA Annual Conference. One proposal will be chosen from within each of the year's topics for a total of three awards:
- Accessibility and Universal Design in Library Services and Resources
- Diversity and Emerging Literacies in the 21st Century
- Affects of Diversity Policy Implementation on Institutional Diversity

The National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC) seeks ways to ensure that records created today will be usable with tomorrow's technology. As record keeping moves from paper to electronic systems, it is essential that policy makers, managers, and the public create and maintain records that are complete and authentic. The NHPRC supports efforts to confront the challenges facing archivists and records managers in the proliferation of electronic records. Applications are due June 1st. The Getty Museum Interpretation Grants support innovative interpretive projects that will increase public appreciation and understanding of artworks in a museum's permanent collection. Projects should be designed to encourage or complement museum visitors' firsthand experiences with the objects in the collection, and should include the development of educational materials for long-term future use.
