The new Assistant Librarian at St. John's Prep School, Danvers, is Jennifer Jones, who will be earning her degree from Salem State this Spring. She assumed the position in September 2004.
The Dunstable Public Library will be hosting a Meet the Author event on Saturday, April 2 from 11:30 - 1:30. We have lined up four very talented local authors to come and speak. On hand will be Kimberly Scott, author of Papaya Myths and On the Bus, David Brody, author of Unlawful Deeds and Blood of the Tribe, Kathy Mackel, author of seven children's books and just now moving on to writing adult novels and 2003 Massachusetts Book Award Winner, Christopher Castellani for his book, Kiss for Maddalena. David McArdle has retired as Library Director at the Gloucester Lyceum & Sawyer Free Library.
Jan Dempsey is the new Director of Hamilton-Wenham Public Library. She had been the Assistant Director of Boxford. She begins the position in mid-March. Shirley Raynard had been the Interim Director, and she will continue in her position as the librarian of the Middleton Historical Society.
Susanne Simmons is the new Circulation Librarian at Ipswich Public Library.
Maureen Nimmo is the new director of the Lawrence Public Library. She was previously Assistant Director.
Manchester-by-the-Sea Public Library Director, Jolene Larsen, announced her retirement, effective April 1, 2005. The new Director is Dorothy Sieradzki, currently Assistant Director.
Mrs. Larsen has served as Director in Manchester for seventeen years. Before coming to Manchester she was Head of Children's Services at the Beverly Public Library. Mrs. Larsen also worked in the Omaha, Hastings, and LaVista public libraries in Nebraska.
During her time at Manchester-by-the-Sea Public Library she has worked with various Trustees and staff to make the Manchester Library a first-class small town library. The support of the town, membership in the Merrimack Valley Library Consortium, and services and guidance from regional and state systems add to the success of the library.
Mrs. Larsen, as a Department Head in the town, has worked cooperatively with all town departments and served on the town safety committee in past years. She is a member of the Massachusetts Library Association, the Massachusetts Trustee Association, and the American Library Association. She has served as President of the Merrimack Valley Library Consortium and on many committees within the consortium. Jolene Larsen has worked on the Planning and Budget Committee and the Supplemental Services Committee for the Northeast Regional Library System. She has worked for the state of Massachusetts as a grant reader for library construction grants. Over a period of several years she taught graduate courses on "Selection of Children's Library Materials' at Salem State College. While at Beverly, she served as President of the North of Boston Children's Services organization
Esme Green, formerly the Head of Information Services at the Reading Public Library has accepted a new position as Assistant Director at the Westfield Athenaeum. She will be greatly missed by both her co-workers and the public.
Lorraine Barry, a Reading resident and experienced member of the Reference Department has been named the new Head of Information Services. Nancy Aberman is the new Head of Elder Services.
Julie Bernier has resigned her position as Director of Rowley Public Library. She will be enjoying more time with her baby daughter, and expects to be a regular patron of Rowley Public Library!
