Making the Connections: MSLA/NMRLS Library Media Specialist Series
Session 4: Not Your Average Database - Exploring Grolier Online
March 20, 3:00-6:00 PM, West Middle School, Andover

You already know how to search an online encyclopedia, but you might not know about the educational tools embedded in Grolier Online that are available to integrate this web portal into your curriculum/library! This Grolier Online workshop will not be focused on how to search an encyclopedia database, but will provide an opportunity for learning about the integrated features that support differentiated learning and link resources to the curriculum with search results that build research and critical thinking skills. The two Grolier Online interfaces provide access to two age-appropriate environments that facilitate research and learning for students and patrons at all levels. Grolier Online Kids is for students in grades 3-5 with customized content for beginning researchers. Grolier Online Passport is for older students and adults and provides research tools, in-depth content, and extensive links that satisfy the most challenging research needs.

The "For Educators" section is brimming with tools, projects and activities to help educators meaningfully integrate Grolier Online into their curriculum. You'll also discover Lexiles--the reading diagnostic assessment that will soon be part of the students' portfolios!

Gwen Paquette is the instructor.

Please note: Ten (10) PDPs will be awarded if 3 of the 4 Sessions are attended. Each session will be 3 hours in length. An additional hour is earned through a demonstration of completing a related product. This series has been approved by the DOE.
