Brown Bag - Staff Development Days
So, what are some great ideas for staff development days? Our brown bag discussion held on April 14th, addressed just that question. Here's what the afternoon's participants offered:
- A stress management session presented by the town employee assistance program (free!)
- Big name speakers
- Departmental development days - staff goes on a tour of another library or museum
- Mix up staff/departments at tables and have them introduce each other with kind words
- DISC personality profiles - like Myers-Briggs
- Staff meetings held in different departments and staff members introduce the services of that department
What else might be fun?
- Send invitations to staff to attend
- Make the topic of the day a surprise
- Ask the Friends to donate raffle prizes (e.g., restaurant gift certificates)
- Chair and hand massages
- Food, food, food!
More ideas are available as a Continuing Education handout on the NMRLS web site at: www.nmrls.org/ce/handouts.shtml#lunch.
