2004 Summer Reading Adventure - Explore other worlds @ your libraryŽ:
Please be sure to visit the Online Manual at www.nmrls.org/sum/2004/index.html. There are lots of ideas for programs, displays, reading lists, and more!
Explore Other Worlds Reaches Out
The Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners is promoting Explore other worlds @ your libraryŽ this summer. Throughout the state selected movie theatres will be running advertisements for the reading program from early June to early July.
Additionally, the MBLC will be adding a summer reading promotional link to their web page. This summer reading page will be for parents and children to access. It will include information about the theme, how to join the program, fun pages, cool books to read, and links to our coupon sponsors for cool places to go. Watch for more information about this new addition to the program in coming weeks.
These exciting additions to the Summer Reading Program should reach audiences who have not been participating in this program. We look forward to seeing more families than ever before in libraries this summer.
Summer Reading Kick-Off Announced
To promote the Summer Reading Program on a statewide level, libraries are encouraged to plan a special kick-off event during the week of June 16 - June 23. The Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners will assist in announcing these events to media throughout the state. While media coverage cannot be guaranteed, this effort should generate publicity about summer reading. If your library is planning a special event at that time, please visit www.nmrls.org/sum/kickoff.html by May 21, 2004.
Call for Submissions for Summer 2005! Going places @ your libraryŽ
Yes, that says 2005! Work is already beginning on 2005. Please visit www.nmrls.org/sum/2004/update2005.html.
The materials will be presented in the same format as was provided in 2004: sample 6-8 week summer reading programs for several age groups ranging from birth to young adult. Each sample program provides book lists, activities, songs, and reproducibles to go along with the 2005 theme. Each of the six regions has agreed to continue to manage the compilation and development of an age-specific section of the Web Resource.
Programs and Activities
Please submit your programs and activities for the Statewide Summer Library Adventure 2005 "Going Places @ your libraryŽ" as an email attachment. Please remember that all submissions must be copyright free.

The Massachusetts Regional Library Systems Statewide Reading Program Steering Committee needs submissions by September 15, 2004 to allow time for revision and proofing.
