Both NMRLS Intelibrary Loan Centers, NOBLE and Memorial Hall Library in Andover, hosted their own ILL Center Open House & Delivery Spring Meetings. Many thanks to Marilyn Graves of NOBLE and Anna Kjoss of Memorial Hall Library for hosting these meetings!
NMRLS staff presented an overview of the NMRLS Online Guide to Delivery Services and introduced the idea of presorting library materials. For the last several months, six (6) libraries in the region have participated in a presorting experiment by presorting library materials for their biggest partners (Andover, North Andover, Chelmsford, Lowell, Newburyport, and Newbury). NMRLS staff asked the attendees to start thinking about other libraries they might have at least one full bin for on a daily basis.
NMRLS staff also discussed the possibility of:
- forming a Delivery Committee, made up of frontline staff, library directors, and network representatives;
- separating media from books when sending into the delivery system;
- the use of new delivery routing slips that use a numeric system with the hope of easing sorting errors and decreasing sort time;
- and a new routing structure.
These potential changes are the result of ideas coming out of our own strategic planning process and of conversations NMRLS has had with CD&L, our current contractor, with the goal being to increase efficiency and keep costs down. If you have any quesions, please contact Susan Grabski.
Scott Kehoe reviewed the some new policy changes, the FAQ, and provided a Quick-Glance Chart of Material polices for the NMRLS ILL Centers:
