MA Parent Power:
What Parents Should Know about MA School Libraries &
How You Can Tell Them
May 22, 2007, 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Tewksbury Public Library
Parents can be powerful advocates for school library programs. Yet few parents have an understanding of what the school library program actually does and how it helps every child succeed. Do parents know why a professional school librarian is necessary? Or what the research says about school libraries and student achievement? Are parents aware of the school library program in their child’s school and how it supports the curriculum? This presentation will provide you with ideas and resources to inform, encourage, and enlist the support of parents for your school library program.
The presenter Connie Champlin brings a wide range of expertise to her consulting. Her work in education covers a variety of areas: classroom teacher, school library media specialist, district administrator, library consultant, staff development coordinator, author, and media technology consultant. With over thirty years of experience as an educator, Connie's work reflects her understanding of student learning, schools, media centers, and instructional technology. She has presented workshops across the United States, as well as in the Philippines, South Korea, and Thailand.
The book Massachusetts Power! A Parent’s Guide to School Libraries will be available for purchase at a discounted price as well as the CD.
