Delivery Volume Survey Results
NMRLS would like to thank our member libraries for providing information about their delivery activity during our March survey of delivery volume. The information proves enormously helpful as we evaluate our current contract and plan for future delivery services to the region.
During this survey we also asked libraries to do a single day survey of the type and destination of their items (results below). In our efforts to improve the speed and accuracy of sorting at our vendors sort site, we wanted to determine how much traffic goes between networks on a daily basis. The numbers reinforced our assumption that activity out of network is light.
The chart below reveals that, while the number of items has increased in the last year, the number of bins has decreased. We attribute this to two things - 1.) Member libraries have become very efficient at packing their bins and 2.) the size of items is smaller, e.g., dvd's and cd's. Actual libray detail follows the chart.
