Hamilton-Wenham Public Library Awarded Second Prize in the Logo Category and Third Prize in the Flier Category of the Public Relations Awards at Massachusetts Library Association Conference
The Massachusetts Library Association (MLA) presented the 18th Biennial Public Relations Awards to the winning applicants at the Association's Annual Conference at the Sturbridge Host Hotel & Conference Center in Sturbridge, Massachusetts. Winners were chosen by a panel of independent judges from the public relations, press, and library fields. Evaluation criteria included graphic design, originality, and presentation. Over 85 entries were submitted in 17 categories.
The library's winning logo depicts a map of the two towns of Hamilton and Wenham as two pages of a book. The map is filled with a line drawing of the library. This logo signifies the library's unique role as the only regional library in Massachusetts and its mission of promoting reading and literacy and connecting and serving two communities. The winning flier was designed to promote Tracy Kidder's lecture on his book Mountains Beyond Mountains for Hamilton and Wenham's first Community Read.

Congratulations to Charlotte Wood, Head of Technical Services at Wilmington Memorial Library, who won a free trip to ALA from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation!
Charlotte and Library Director Tina Stewart attended a Gates Rural/Small Libraries Sustainability workshop in November at Moses Greeley Parker Memorial Library (Dracut). As an outcome of this workshop, Charlotte wrote a technology plan for the Wilmington Library and mounted it on WebJunction. The Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners selected five winners from across Massachusetts to attend ALA in Washington, DC at the end of June.
