The NMRLS Executive Board agreed with the recommendation of ILL Committee Chair, Marnie Oakes, Reuben Hoar Library, Littleton, that it is advisable to dissolve the NMRLS ILL Committee at this time. This committee acted as a continuation of a northeast regional planning committee, as do several other committees, in an effort to maintain a member-driven NMRLS. However, after accomplishing a great deal since NMRLS' founding in 1997, the ILL Committee has run its course.
NMRLS committees are in place to ensure that member input is part of NMRLS planning and decision making and this decision will not change our commitment to solicit and consider member input. I encourage you to contact NMRLS when you have comments or suggestions about NMRLS services. The service areas considered in the area of the ILL Committee include mediated interlibrary loan services provided by NMRLS' ILL Centers at Memorial Hall Library and NOBLE, delivery services, currently provided under contract with CD&L Courier, and MassCat. Please contact me if you have input or questions about this decision.
The Executive Board may appoint, ad hoc, short term task forces to address specific decision making as they have in the past, e.g., Delivery RFP Task Force and a task force that evaluated NMRLS ILL centers' services. Or, the Board could reinstate the ILL Committee should the need arise.
We thank the members who served on this committee that has accomplished much in service planning, evaluation, and fine tuning since NMRLS was founded in 1997, particularly the Chairs: Pat Cloherty (Former Director, Salem Public Library), Doug Rendell (Peabody Insitute Library, Danvers), and Marnie Oakes (Reuben Hoar Public Library, Littleton).
