Library Leadership MA '07 announced

Are you a potential Massachusetts Library Leader?

Join fifty colleagues for three and a half days of collaborative training in leadership and mentoring. Prospective candidates are practitioners of library science or library advocates with fewer than ten years in their roles. They demonstrate leadership potential, and may or may not hold a Masters of Library Science (MLS) or degree of School Library Media certification (SLMC).

Library Leadership Massachusetts (LLMA) 2007, facilitated by Maureen Sullivan and Jack Siggins, prominent national consultants, will address topics including the following:

  • Your leadership effectiveness
  • Risk-taking
  • Presentation skills
  • Communication
  • Negotiation
  • Collaboration

The Institute will be held July 15-18, 2007 at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester. Applications, Letters of Support, and Institutional Agreements are due Friday, December 8, 2006.

This is a competitive application process. Space is limited. Participants will be notified Friday, January 5, 2007. The cost to attend is $100.

Participants agree to make a one-year commitment to LLMA based on a Personal Action Agenda to be developed during the Institute. This will provide them with opportunities to practice and expand the leadership skills learned during the Institute.

During the year, participants will:

  • Advocate for Massachusetts libraries through participation in one or more professional organizations;
  • Join and actively participate in the appropriate Massachusetts library association;
  • Contribute to a library publication, workshop or newsletter on a topic related to leadership or advocacy.

They also agree to follow up periodically with one or more of the Institute's mentors on the progress of their action plans and leadership activities.

Previous Leadership Institute alums are making great contributions to Massachusetts libraries through work in associations, regional library systems, and with the MBLC. Will you join their ranks?
