Library Grant Links

For Public Libraries:

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is accepting applications from public libraries for the Access to Learning Award. The foundation recognizes excellence by providing access to information through computers. Up to $1 million is available, and the deadline to apply is Dec. 31, 2006.

For more information, visit: http://www.inasp.info/ldp/awards

For Museums:

The Conservation Assessment Program provides a general conservation assessment of your museum's collection, environmental conditions, and site. Conservation priorities are identified by professional conservators who spend two days on-site and three days writing a report. The report can help your museum develop strategies for improved collections care and provide a tool for long-range planning and fund-raising.

Any not-for-profit museum that cares for and owns or uses tangible objects, exhibits them on a regular basis, is open to the public at least 90 days annually, and has at least one full-time paid or volunteer staff person or the equivalent is eligible to apply.

These are non-competitive grants. The deadline is December 1. For more information visit: http://www.heritagepreservation.org/CAP/application.html

For Students Working in Any Library:

The Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS), funded by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, was established in 1999 to provide outstanding low income minority students with an opportunity to complete an undergraduate college education in any discipline area of interest. Continuing GMS Scholars may request funding for a graduate degree program in one of the following discipline areas: education, engineering, library science, mathematics, public health or science. The goal of GMS is to promote academic excellence by providing thousands of outstanding students, who have significant financial need, the opportunity to reach their full potential. See: https://www.gmsp.org/GMSP_app/default.aspx. The deadline is January 12, 2007.
