Target's community outreach branch is accepting applications for the Target Field Trip Grants. This funding program provides up to $800 for field trips for students to art, science, and cultural museums; community service or civic projects; career enrichment opportunities; or other events or activities that are outside of your school's campus.

For Public Libraries in Communities Under 25,000

Is your library the Best Small Library in America? Library Journal's annual award for the Best Small Library in America, cosponsored by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, was founded to encourage and showcase the exemplary work of these libraries. Now in its fifth year, the award honors the public library that most profoundly demonstrates outstanding service to populations of 25,000 or less.

For Libraries and Consortia

The American Library Association (ALA) and Information Today invite applications for the Library of the Future Award for innovative planning for, applications of, or development of patron training programs about information technology in a library setting.

The H.W. Wilson Library Staff Development Grant awards $3,500 to an applicant who demonstrates the greatest merit for a program of staff development designed to further the goals and objectives of the library organization.

For Family Literacy Programs

The National Center for Family Literacy and Toyota are accepting applications for the 2009 Toyota Family Literacy Teacher of the Year.

Family educators from across the United States are eligible for the award. Nominees must work primarily in children's education, adult/ESL education, parenting education, or other educational services and must be able to demonstrate an impact on intergenerational learning between parents and children.

The winner will receive $7,500 for his/her family literacy program as well as a free trip to the 2009 National Conference on Family Literacy in Orlando, Florida. In addition, several finalists will be selected to receive a $500 scholarship.

For Public and School Libraries

The National Endowment for the Humanities and ALA's Public Programs Office have announced that applications are now being accepted for the sixth annual We the People Bookshelf project. This year's theme is "Picturing America."

Public and school (K-12) libraries are invited to apply for the program. In spring 2009, NEH and ALA will select 4,000 libraries to receive the Bookshelf titles. Libraries selected will be required to use the bookshelf selections in programs for young readers in their communities.
