In Partnership with the Massachusetts Regional Library Systems & The Massachusetts Library Association

The Great Bay State Library Fundraiser
December 2 & 3, 2005

The Massachusetts Library Systems (MRLS), the Massachusetts Library Association (MLA), and Barnes & Noble have teamed up for a two day event sure to please families throughout Massachusetts. The event, The Great Bay State Library Fundraiser, to be held on December 2 & 3 will raise much needed funding for Massachusetts libraries. Barnes and Noble will donate a percentage of every sale from every customer who presents a book fair voucher at any Massachusetts Barnes and Noble store on those two days. The collaboration represents a growing trend in libraries to seek out partners to help fund programs that improve the quality of life for residents. Through partnerships with organizations and individuals, MRLS and MLA continue to discover alternative ways of funding high quality library programs and services statewide.

This is a natural partnership and the timing couldn't be better! On December 2 & 3, as library lovers shop for books and other materials for their holiday gift-giving, a large percentage of their purchases will be used to benefit libraries. It's a real win-win situation.

Individuals need to present a book fair voucher when visiting any Massachusetts Barnes & Noble store on December 2 and 3. Vouchers are available on The Great Bay State Library Fundraiser web site www.wmrls.org/mrls/bn/index.html and by request at a Massachusetts Barnes & Noble store on December 2 & 3. Vouchers will be in the cash register area of the store.

For over 100 years, MLA has been collaborating to keep libraries vital in our communities. MLA urges people to celebrate reading together and sharing access to books by participating in The Great Bay State Library Fundraiser on December 2nd and 3rd. Katie Baxter, MLA President, asks people to remember that promoting the power of the imagination and intellect takes enthusiastic dedication, economic resources and creative networking among the many types of libraries in our state. MLA is delighted to be partnering with the Massachusetts Regional Library Systems and Barnes and Nobles to provide communities with the opportunity to spread the joy of reading and support various library services during this holiday season.
