Workshops on YA Standards

Is your library filled with teens and tweens after school? Are you wrestling with how to provide services to them with limited resources? Did you know there is a standard for public library services to young adults that can help you begin the planning process? Join members of the YA Standards Revision Committee for a review and discussion of the newly revised Massachusetts Standards for Public Library Service to Young Adults. Six training opportunities will be offered across the state. Librarians serving teens who attend with a colleague, director or trustee get a book or poster prize! Dates, times and locations follow. Please visit your regional website to register. Each regions' own members have preference in their own region, however, if another date or location is more convenient- contact the region to check availability.

This is a great opportunity to learn about a very important document you can use to develop a plan of service for teens in your library as well as a useful tool for convincing library administration, staff, customers, and the budget makers to support such a plan of service. If you are already using this document in your library, please bring your ideas and suggestions to share during a roundtable discussion. Please review the new standards before this workshop. The standards are online at: www.masslib.org/yss/StandardsRevFeb051.doc.
