Fall/Winter Grant - Grassroots Volunteer Campaign

In celebration of the new Sleeping Bear Press book D Is for Democracy: A Citizen's Alphabet, Thomson Gale Corporation invites students from grades 3-8 across the nation to participate in the new "Grassroots Volunteer" campaign. Your class's proposal for supporting worthy causes could come to life with the help of a $1,000 grant to your school. Five school winners will be announced on Jan. 20, 2005.

Participating teachers must submit one project campaign proposal to represent their class. The project is to benefit a worthy cause and must be implemented by the winning teacher and classroom.

$5,000 National Library Week Grant

U.S. libraries of all types are invited to apply for the 2005 Scholastic Library/Grolier National Library Week Grant. The grant will award $5,000 to a single library for the best public awareness campaign during National Library Week (April 10-16, 2005) that uses the National Library Week 2005 theme of "Something for everyone @ your libraryŽ."

The grant is sponsored by Scholastic Library Publishing and its publishing imprint Grolier and is administered by the Public Awareness Committee of the American Library Association (ALA). This year's application deadline is October 18, 2004.
